CSL JSON citation file issue

After updating to v4.1.1 it seems that Zettlr no longer reads CSL JSON files for citations (file created with better BibTex export from Zotero). Better BibTex and BibLaTeX files exported from Zotero work as expected. I have tested on a CSL JSON file was working in previous versions of Zettlr and on new exports, neither work.

Expected behaviour: type @somename and get a drop down menu of matched citations.

Current behaviour with CSL JSON: type @somename and no drop down menu appears.

Is this a known issue or purposeful change with recent versions of Zettlr? or possibly an issue with Zotero/Better BibTex export formats that I could check?

Running Fedora 43 with Zettlr v4.1.1, Zotero v7.0.32, and Better BibTex v8.0.13

My current take is that the citekey-change that Zotero made (I don't exactly know what they did, but they mentioned it in the changelog) incurs some caching, during which things go awry. I had some issues, too, but they have solved themselves. But we're all not really sure at this point whether Zotero or Zettlr is causing this.

The cause, in any case, was definitely Zotero 8, maybe specifically 8.0.3.

I suspect there could be an issue within Zettlr (possibly coincident with something in Zotero 8) as my Zotero instance is a tarball/binary install that has not been modified or upgraded for 6 months. I would have thought the citekey-change or export format shouldn't impact my particular set up in that case?

Up until recently the citations were functioning as expected. I can't point to an exact time because I have been working on data analysis more than writing the past 2 months.

I suspect the same problem. Everything was working fine until the update.
Then, I updated Zotero, and Pandoc, and restart the complete process described in the user documentation. So, I create a new file CSL JSON. That's no better. All the citations that appeared correctly in Image description
my file are now in red with the citation key.

Quick update: we have identified the cause: The CSL JSON files coming out of Zotero can become corrupted after the big citation key change of Zotero after 8.0. There is a fix in the code base that will come with the next update.

The current nightlies also include this fix.
