I had to fix a citation issue today, so this is just a quick PSA for anyone else who may be having trouble. After updating Zotero and Better BibTex today, newly added citations were unavailable in Zettlr. I could still add citations to my Zettlr documents that were created in Zotero before the update, but newly created citations were not auto-suggested in Zettlr, nor did they render when I entered the citekeys manually, nor did they export.
Upon closer inspection, Better Bibtex had stopped updating the Better CSL JSON file on which Zettlr was dependent. I did the following and everything is now working again—not sure which of these steps is strictly necessary, but in combination they worked:
- Disabled and then re-enabled the Better BibTex plugin in Zotero.
- Created a new Better CSL JSON export file and pointed Zettlr to it, per the process shown in the Zettlr docs.
- Restarted both Zettlr and Zotero
