However, there is another interesting deviation from what is rendered in Zotero via the CMOS 18 styles and what Zettlr exports when asked to use it.
For example: podcast episodes.
CMOS18 14.168 suggests that podcasts need to have the name of the podcaster listed, followed by "host" and other episode information, as you would expect (this is the notes
style; slight mods for author-date
).
Name of Podcaster, host, Title of Podcast in Title Caps, podcast, season <number>, episode <number>, "Title of Episode in Title Caps", Publisher/Source, Date, <URL>.
What is not shown is whether to list the guest as the name instead of the podcaster, when there is a guest. It seems that Zotero's styles will follow the CMOS template of listing the podcaster. Unfortunately, the info ordering is not correct, per CMOS, but that's not the issue here. For example:
This is what is shown in the Item Pane header with the notes with bibliography
style selected and Bibliography entry
selected as the display.
Now, Zettlr renders this reference (using its own internal Chicago style) as:
I understand that Zettlr will do this for display purposes only and will use whatever style is selected in the Citations setting. But when you select the same style as used in Zotero to render the reference shown in the Item Pane header above, the following is the output (to Word):
In other words, the issue is that it does not look like Zettlr used the style from Zotero for the output; it seems to use the same style as the internal Chicago style used to render on-screen.
I have the latest versions of Zettlr (3.6.0
) and Zotero (7.0.23
). There is in fact a discussion going on at the Zotero Forums about these anomalies.
I am not criticising here; I'm just wondering where the disconnect might be. It seems there is an anomaly in how Zotero processes style -- it uses citeproc-js
, as opposed to pandoc
(I use the 'internal' pandoc
in Zettlr to do output), so maybe that's what's going on. But there is also a bug in pandoc
which caused the issue above in the previous post (to which this one is a 'reply').
So, I am trying to work out where the issue may be so that the right people can be made aware and then fixes can be made.
I love using Zettlr with Zotero -- which I blogged about several years ago -- and I still think the two together are an unbeatable combination for anyone doing research and needing to write it up. I can't imagine going back to the old days before these two tools came along. So please understand that this is done in the spirit of trying to help these two tools work together even better.
